Parents are concerned when baby is born prematurely, but her beautiful smile gives them hope

Complications in any way during a birth can be traumatic for parents and having a premature child can bring a wealth of fear during a time that is supposed to be filled with celebration. For Lauren and David Vinje, this was the reality brought upon them when their daughter was born a little too early around Thanksgiving of 2014.

While they may have had their own fears during that time, it seems that their daughter, named Freya, was more than happy to be on this Earth a little earlier than her expected date, and when her mother uploaded her young smile onto Facebook earlier this month, it quickly captivated the internet audience far and wide. There’s a debate circling around over whether little Freya was excited to be alive or reassuring her parents with her dazzling smile, but either way, she seems happy, beautiful, and healthy, in the photo.

“Our first daughter at five days old. 3 lbs. 14 oz., she was happy to be alive! This picture was one I looked at often to get me through the ups and downs of our NICU days. Life is so precious,” Lauren Vinje tells Facebook page, Love What Matters.

The photo has also prompted other parents to share stories about their premature “preemie” babies, helping reassure new and expecting moms and dads as they journey through parenthood.

Today, Freya is turning 2-years-old, and she’s cuter than ever. Her parents call her “the best thing that has happened to [them],” and her mother continues on to say, “We go to the store and she’s the friendliest little girl and she says hi to everybody. She’s so fun. She’s so happy. That picture at 5 days old, you can see her little personality and you look at her now, and she hasn’t changed. She’s still the happy little girl in that photo.”

While parenthood can be a challenge, Freya and her parents prove that love is all that matters. We hope to continue to see little Freya’s beautiful smile as she grows up!
