Firefighter helps homeless woman deliver baby. Then tells wife he wants to adopt the child

For firefighter Marc Hadden, it was your average slow day at the station.
“We were sitting down to eat, hadn’t had a call all day,” Hadden said.
Then they got a call about a woman experiencing severe abdominal pain. After Hadden and the other firefighters arrived on the scene, they realized the woman was in labor.
“It was a pretty serious call for us,” he said. “We got her on some oxygen, started some IVs and literally as we were getting ready to leave the parking lot in the ambulance, my partner said, ‘We’re about to deliver a baby right here.’ We had no time to prepare. Before we could do anything — we hadn’t even cut her clothes — Gracie came right out. Immediately she was handed to me.”
Later that day after the woman gave birth on November 14, 2011, Hadden learned she was homeless and was putting the baby up for adoption. Coincidentally, Hadden and his wife wanted a third child and sprang at the opportunity.
Two days later they took her home and named her Rebecca Grace Hadden. The couple got full custody of Grace, who goes by her middle name, in March 2012.

Today, Grace is 5-years-old and loves gymnastics and soccer. Hadden is a firefighter to this day but on a volunteer basis.
“She’s a pretty remarkable kid,” Hadden said.
Grace has two older brothers: Parker, 12, and Will, 14. The boys love her and she adores them, according to Hadden.

Grace’s birth story is no secret. Hadden chose to never hide that from her.
“If you ask her where she was born, she says, ‘My daddy delivered me in the back of an ambulance,'” Hadden said. Although she knows the whole story, Hadden knows he still has to explain it to her more in depth when she gets older.
